Horse training
Training a horse can often be a daunting and fairly arduous process, however it doesn't have to be all hard work; it can actually be very enjoyable. Sometimes we can get so caught up in the methodology recommended by acclaimed horse professionals that we can forget a horse's individuality and how their particular response is all important. Firstly we should put down the classroom literature, forget stringent methodologies and start to feel. Not that there aren't some very useful techniques to use, but initially we need to concentrate on our unique relationship with our horse and how they respond to us as an individual. Of course a horse's language is quite different from our own; we need to use their language and start to blend with them.
A good relationship with our horse is about two-way communication and indeed requires a mutually understandable language. If a horse doesn't understand what is being asked of him, he can become confused and not respond as desired. Equally we may misread his response. Once we have established this shared understanding we can start to make significant progress. It is all about partnership with, not dominance of, our horse.
The workshops which I run are designed to follow a certain framework but are open to moving in whichever direction they take on the day. These workshops cater for all ages and levels of horsemanship skills. I also offer private 1:1 tuition.
